Why diets don't work
Why don't most diets work? Usually because the dieter sets unrealistic expectations of themselves. For example, "I won't eat junk food until I have lost X amount of lbs". Most of us don't have the will power to give up our favorite treats. It's very realistic to tell ourselves that we won't eat pizza, chocolate, or whatever our favorite treat is until we've lost 5, 10, 20lbs? This is setting ourselves up for failure. So, how do we diet successfully? In my experience, I've never put my clients on a "diet". I have them practice the habit of eating in moderation; nothing is "off limits". This eliminates the feeling of guilt that ultimately leads to diet failure. When we allow ourselves to eat what we crave (in moderation) then we are satisfied and we haven't sabotaged our eating plan. We can do simple things such as use a smaller plate and always leave a bite or two of food on our plates. Making small changes in our eating habits can make a big difference in our waistline. I totally agree. I just can't find the moderation button right now on a few certain frozen food items. (Aisle 5 at hyvee third freezer from the meat counter on the right if you are facing north) Atleast I can look at this beautiful blog now and get some reminders. I still have your voice in my head. That should help too. (Four more)
Diet - yeah right when you love to cook and eat all those excellent pasta, pizza, drink Coke, candies, and not too fond of some of those veggies that suppose to be good for you. I will admit however, that for the two years knowing you and what gets you excited, exercise and food play an important part in living a quality life. Based on physical limits because of multiple surgeries and arthritis, exercise has become a challenge for two and half years. It has caused a lowering of weight and a feeling of self-accomplishment determined not to be a couch potato. It is a privilege having you as a personal trainer and a friend. Striving for the betterment of life is your self-motivation, and that is transferred to whoever you are with. Going from 210 pounds to now 190 pounds overtime has been one goal. Now you have hit the bell with Ruth Ellynn showing things of quanity and quality food diet along with an exercise program. It's the little things that make you an outstanding trainer and friend.
Is it friday yet?
where do i start....
I want tto try to get in shape but where and how do i start?
rr
Start with baby steps -
1. write before you bite! Write down what you eat.
2. Cardio, cardio, cardio
3. Eat 5 small meals a day
There are more baby steps, but I don't want to overwhelm you. The main thing to start with is the food journal. Statistics show that people that write down what they eat - lose weight!
