Cindy,
What should my waist and
hip measurements be in
order to be healthy?
A. G.
Great question! Our health is affected by the amount of body fat we have and where it is located on our bodies. It's important to know our waist and hip measurements in order to determine where we are storing it. Apple shaped people (fat stored in abdomen) are at a higher risk of developing health related problems, i.e. diabetes, coronary issues, and high blood pressure. Even pear shaped people (fat stored in hips and tush) need to be aware of their body fat in order to avoid obesity, etc. We are all built differently. Whether we are apple or pear shaped we need to avoid excess weight for optimum health.
In order to discover your waist to hip ratio you need to measure your waist below your rib-cage but above your belly button. Then measure your hips at the widest part of your tush. Finally, divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement to discover you WHR. Check the chart below and see where you rank.
Health Risk Based Solely On Waist to Hip Ratio
Male
0.95 or below = Low Risk
0.96 to 1.0 = Moderate Risk
1.0 + = High Risk
Female
0.80 or below = Low Risk
0.81 - 0.85 = Moderate Risk
0.85 + = High Risk
Thought for the week: We can work out 2 hours a day, and get 8 hours of sleep, but we aren't going to see the results we want if we put junk in our bodies for the other 14 hours!
Eat Intentionally!

EEEW! Not the answer that I wanted! Moderate risk is not a cool category to be in! :( But, I'm working, working, working! Thanks for all your help! You are inspiration behind my weight loss! I don't think I could do it without your advice! :) Love ya!
My waist to hip ratio is off a bit right now.
Actually I think it is equal, but I am not measuring to find out:)
