So we know there is a Law of Gravity, remember we learned about Sir Isaac Newton and the apple? I am going to hypothesize that there is a Law of Diets. I have deduced that when we decide to "diet" we are fighting the Force of Deprivation. Now this is no ordinary force, Deprivation can cause a sane person to eat an entire box of Oreos or an entire pizza, even when they aren't hungry. I have fallen into the force many times and I can tell you that it takes a lot of hard work to fight it.
So why is it so hard for us to eat right when we are "dieting"? I believe it's all in the way we look at it. Are we really fighting Deprivation or are we taking care of our bodies? Are we excluding delicious foods from our plates or are we making wiser choices so we feel better? Are we falling into the "all or nothing" plan or are we allowing ourselves freedom?
I'll tell you about an epiphany I had while driving (remember last week I told you I have/had a little issue with road rage), well, I needed to be somewhere and I was running 10 minutes late, so naturally I got every red light. You know what happened next, I got behind the SLOWEST driver on Earth, (I mean he was riding his brakes as he merged onto the highway!), anyway, I started chuckling at the ridiculous situation and I asked God "why". "Why do we always get red lights when we are in a hurry?" "Why do we get behind slow pokes when we are in a rush?" The answer I received was so easy - if we weren't in a rush we wouldn't care! The slow poke would still be in front of us, but we wouldn't pay him any attention. We wouldn't care about sitting at a red light if we weren't in a hurry.
So, if we focus on what we HAVE to eat rather than what we can't have (or are denying ourselves), then we would eat better and feel better.
Eat Intentionally!
