Food Combining, When To Eat Fruit, and Other Questions Answered

I received an email that stated we should eat fruit on an empty stomach and by doing so we would detoxify our system, have lots of energy, and lose weight. It went on to say we shouldn't combine fruit with other foods, that it should be eaten by itself. By following these rules we supposedly will not have gray hair (I wish Mitzi), nervous outbursts, or dark circles under the eyes.

The email went on to say that drinking cold water after a meal could cause cancer since the cold water will solidify the food we just ate. This will slow down the consumption and turn the food into fat.

I knew the email was bogus but just to make sure I checked on Snopes, sure enough it is false.

There are many theories regarding food combining and timing. I think this requires too much time and energy. If someone has health issues, i.e. diabetes, obesity, gastric problems, etc., they need to watch the combinations. For example, a diabetic would not want to eat fruit on an empty stomach because it would cause a spike in insulin. A diabetic would want to combine the fruit with some protein and fiber to slow the absorption, that's my idea of food combining. Some people recommend that we only eat protein and one meal, only vegetables at another, etc. I think that is ridiculous. A majority of Americans are overweight and "diets" like that just make it harder and more frustrating to lose weight. Let's make it simple - calories in, calories out. Get moving and eat less. Simple enough. Oh, and EAT INTENTIONALLY!

Good points Cindy. Another thing that we don't stress enough is the difference between portion size and serving size. What the box says is a serving is not what we put on our plate. Padma had some illustrations which showed how grossly we are overstuffing ourselves.
