The Biggest Loser

Okay, some of you have already had to listen to me complain about the television show - The Biggest Loser. Well, I made the mistake of turning to it instead of watching commercials (no, I didn't walk during the commercials that night). Anyway, I need to vent a little more.

1. It is a television show created to entertain (I guess).

2. It is fake.

3. It is dangerous.

4. It is unhealthy - physically, emotionally, and mentally.

During one remote flip I heard Jillian actually saying something wise. She said, "most contestants don't lose weight the second week of the show because they lost so much the first week. She told how that big of a weight loss will slow down our metabolism and cause the body to stop losing weight for a time.

The next remote flip I saw a contestant that lost 22lbs the first week 22 lbs! Then he lost another 11! Is this really healthy? I know being obese isn't healthy, but a weight loss that quick isn't healthy either.

The saddest thing of all was watching a woman get upset because she only lost 7 lbs. What is that telling "regular" people that are trying hard to lose 1 - 2 lbs a week?

We have to keep in mind the "contestants" are exercising for 6 - 7 hours a day. From what I have read, they are eating around 1,200 - 1,500 calories a day. Anyone that drastically changes their eating habits and exercise habits will lose weight, but will these contestants be able to keep it off? Most of them don't. What happens when they go back to "real" life? To their families, their jobs, their own kitchens? Are they going to have the time to devote that many hours to exercise? Are they going to be able to plan and prepare their own healthy meals? Is the Biggest Loser really helping them while entertaining us? I think it's delivering a false hope. I know I can't lose 22 lbs in a week. Nor would I want to do what it takes to lose 22 lbs in a week! I do know that the Biggest Loser is selling videos, protein powders, and Subway. Sorry to be so cynical:)

I know some of you have told me that it inspires you to exercise and I think that is AWESOME! So, I guess it has some redeeming qualities. Just remember it's Hollywood!

Eat Intentionally and don't believe everything you watch:)
