I know it's not Friday but I wanted blog after the 5K, so I waited until today. We had a great time and everyone survived! Our group included my niece - Ashley, my husband - Shane, my friends/clients - Michael and Ruth Ellynn Daugherty, and Carlos Quesada. Half of us had been in a race before but for half of us it was a new experience. We had many Independence landmarks to enjoy as we walked/ran by and lots of hills, too.
I always have a feeling of satisfaction and gratification when I cross that finish line, but it is especially so when I cross with a racing virgin. I am so blessed to be able to take part in their race and to see their smiles as they accomplish their goal.
I remember my first race - A MARARTHON! You would think I would have started with a 5K, but no I have to go all out. Anyway, I was nervous, and not too sure I could do it, but I did. I had a great coach and he ran the last 5 or 6 miles with me. At that point I was delirious and didn't really want to chit chat (it was mile 19 or 20), so he just ran (well let's get real - he walked) beside me. It was so helpful to me and I am grateful to be able to help others now.
I encourage everyone to sign up for a 5K or a race. It's a great way to start your morning! You get exercise and with most 5K's and other events, you get to help out a great organization. Don't worry about your shape, size, whether you run or walk; you'll see all walks of life at these events. It's about challenging yourself and accomplishing a goal.
If you are a racing virgin, here's the lingo: 5K = 3.1 miles, 10K = 6.2 miles, 1/2 marathon = 13.1 miles, marathon = 26.2 miles. If you want to run further than that (and some people do), more power to you!

Awe man I missed the party! I thought about you right at 7am. That was our thang! Cant believe I did it last year! You are the bestest coach in all the land so do not even try to give someone else that title!
