De-Stress with Yoga

Hi Fit Friends,

I will be in Yoga training all weekend. It's my final class and will bring an end to my 200 hours of training. I will be celebrating on Sun eve! I thought you might want to practice some Yoga while I'm standing on my head in class. Here are some poses that will de-stress your weekend.

Bharadvajasana I (Bharadvaja's Twist)
This gentle twist is a tonic for the spine and the abdominal organs.

Marjaryasana (Cat Pose )
This pose provides a gentle massage to the spine and belly organs.

Bitilasana (Cow Pose)
Cow Pose is an easy, gentle way to warm up the spine.

Dolphin Pose
A nice shoulder-opening. Also strengthens the core, arms, and legs.

Uttana Shishosana (Extended Puppy Pose)
A cross between Child's Pose and Downward Facing Dog. This pose lengthens the spine and calms the mind.

Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (Bridge Pose)
Calms the brain and rejuvenates tired legs.

Balasana (Child's Pose)
Balasana is a restful pose that can be sequenced between more challenging asanas.

Savasana (Corpse Pose)
Savasana is a pose of total relaxation--making it one of the most challenging asanas.

In addition to quieting the physical body in Savasana, it's also necessary to pacify the sense organs. Soften the root of the tongue, the wings of the nose, the channels of the inner ears, and the skin of the forehead, especially around the bridge of the nose between the eyebrows. Let the eyes sink to the back of the head, then turn them downward to gaze at the heart. Release your brain to the back of the head.

Stay in this pose for at least 5 minutes. To exit, first roll gently with an exhalation onto one side, preferably the right. Take 2 or 3 breaths. With another exhalation press your hands against the floor and lift your torso, dragging your head slowly after. The head should always come up last.

Enjoy and Eat Intentionally,

Cindy

I'm familiar with the Bhagavad Gita, but not with the others.

If you want a good Yoga book try How Yoga Works. It's a fictional book that tells the story of a girl involved in a challenging situation and how she uses Yoga to overcome it. It's great!
