Living Without Fear
Hi Fit Friends,
I thought I would share a couple of stories with you. I was walking on the treadmill and sparked a conversation with the woman next to me. We talked for about twenty minutes and she told me that she wants to lose weight and be healthy so she can enjoy her retirement. She said she wants to be able to walk with her husband, but stated that she couldn't walk from where we were to a point about one block away. I told her to look down at the treadmill because she had just walked over 1 mile. Within 3 minutes she said she couldn't do anymore, she stopped and left.
This week I decided that we would practice Shoulder stands in some of my classes. In the midst of giggles and anxious laughter, were a few terrified faces. Now you know, if you have been in my class, I always show modifications. I don't believe that everyone is ready or should do a shoulder stand. However, I do believe that if the only thing stopping you is fear, then I will encourage you to attempt it. So, I saw a woman that wanted to do it, but was giving up because of the fear. I told her where to place her arms and showed her how to "walk" up the wall for the modification. Before she even got a foot on the wall, she said, "I can't do it." I said, "Well, I guess you just made up your mind."
What would happen if we stopped listening to the fear? What would we be able to accomplish? What dreams would we fulfill?
On the other side of every fear is a freedom - Marilyn Ferguson
Every time we choose safety, we reinforce fear - Cheri Huber
Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live - Dorothy Thompson
Let's put our fears aside and do the things we thought we couldn't do. Oh, by the way, she did the shoulder stand.
No fear and eat intentionally,
Cindy
